Allied Telesis MC102XL Media Converter feature auto MDI/MDI-X, allowing the converter to be connected to either a PC, hub or switch with a simple UTP cable. Allied Telesis MC102XL Media Converter also allow the installer to test the integrity of fiber connection, by forcing the converters to communicate over the fiber cable. This "Link Test" feature allows installers to check for cable faults without the need for expensive fiberoptic test equipment. The link test is a fast and easy way for you to test the connections between the Allied Telesis MC102XL Media Converter ports and the end nodes that are connected to the ports. If a network problem occurs, you can perform a link test to determine which port is experiencing a problem, and be able to focus your troubleshooting efforts on the cable or end node where the problem resides.
Each Allied Telesis MC102XL Media Converter is powered by an external power supply unit for use in standalone applications. Where multiple Allied Telesis MC102XL Media Converter are being used, up to 12 standalone devices can be inserted into a lowcost rackmount chassis, allowing all the converters to be powered by a single internal power supply. In critical applications, a second load sharing internal power supply can be installed into the rackmount chassis. The MissingLink feature enables the two ports on the Allied Telesis MC102XL Media Converter to pass the "Link" status of their connections to each other. When Allied Telesis MC102XL Media Converter detects a loss of connection to an end node, the Allied Telesis MC102XL Media Converter shuts down the connection to the other port, thus notifying the end node that the connection has been lost.
The Allied Telesis MMCR18 is a two rack-unit high chassis, which enables network managers to use up to 18 Allied Telesis MC102XL Media Converter in a standard 19 inch rack. For redundancy, it can be powered with either one or two Power Supply Units (PSUs). Designed with a simple mounting system, each individual Allied Telesis MC102XL Media Converter is plugged into the back plane and secured with the included mounting rail. The rack-mount chassis includes six status LEDs on the front panel indicating power, temperature, fan and fault status.
